As Manningham Council’s event photographer, I captured versatile imagery that serves multiple purposes – from supporting artists’ careers to securing future funding, documenting community impact, and creating timeless marketing assets.
About the event
Yarra Street Sounds took over Warrandyte’s main street for a celebration of local music and community. Manningham Council brought together 15 artists across 4 venues for 6 hours of live music, creating a platform for local musicians while drawing visitors to the area and fostering genuine community connection.
As their event photographer, I had multiple briefs to fulfill: capturing performance shots to support individual artists’ careers, documenting the day for internal council reference, showcasing the event’s community impact to secure future funding, and creating versatile marketing imagery that would remain relevant year after year.
This meant being strategic – photographing crowd atmosphere and family-friendly moments without identifiable faces, capturing the energy of live performances alongside detail shots that tell the story without dating the content, and documenting the collaboration between local restaurants, council, and musicians that made it all possible.
The atmosphere was vibrant, with distant music floating down the street as you moved between venues. I nearly cried watching a mum sing every word of her daughter’s set from the crowd. The kind of genuine community moment that makes event photography so rewarding, and exactly what Manningham Council needed documented to show why this festival matters.
